In John 6, Jesus is teaching a large crowd of people and He wants to
be able to give them some food (its amazing how often in the gospels
Jesus looks to not only meet people's spiritual needs but their
physical needs as well). But when Jesus mentions this plan to Philip
he's is quick to point-out that even if they could find enough bread
to feed all these people just for everyone to get a bite would cost
over 8 months wages - "Jesus it's impossible" he says. For some
reason though Andrew, perhaps having some faith that Jesus could do
the impossible, draws Jesus' attention to a young boy who had brought
his own lunch. With that boy's lunch Jesus not only gives everyone a
bite of bread but gives them their fill of bread and fish; the
leftovers that are collected are more than they began with.
It seems like sometimes God purposely stacks the odds against Himself
in such a way that we can't help but think "thats impossible" just to
give Him the opportunity to prove that the impossible is possible with
Him.
Its important for us to remember when we find ourselves in an
impossible situation that the stage is just being set for God to do
that which no one expects for Him to do.
